Reuse of coffee waste and paper cups for acoustical panel applications in architectural studios

This study has been initiated with an aim of enhancing the acoustical comfort levels in architectural studios Bilkent University Ankara. Initial assessment by field tests indicated very long reverberation times, supporting complaints students and instructors. In order to be applied studio environment, panels are developed out recycled materials. The increasing coffee demand consumption our era have motivated reuse both paper cups waste. end-product is composed two layers. outer layer cups, placed different arrangements terms orientation, size, spacing. backing a panel compressed kiln-dried grains tea leaves. coffee/tea residues adhered together using natural binders. determine best possible alternative waste materials highest sound absorption performance, density variations explored. Both impedance tube measurements utilized during process research development. Considering for green technology, layered system proposing cost minimized, environmentally friendly, biodegradable solutions improved aesthetical values.
